Earl Redding Jr—devil worshiping, serial arsonist. The man responsible for a string of deaths, including the fire that left Katie scarred physically & emotionally. His plan is to eliminate all first responders and everything they stand for.

BOOK REVIEW BY ECATAROMANCE

Laura Marie Henion does an excellent job presenting post traumatic stress syndrome and I survivor’s guilt issues as well. Katie had sunk so low that even her family had a hard time reaching her. Coming home to familiar surroundings helped her but when trouble followed, her first thought was to protect everyone but herself. Ryan had never felt about anyone the way he felt about Katie. He knew she was special but had a hard time getting through to her. Accurately portraying the effect firefighting has on the family, Laura Marie Henion has penned a tale that is poignant, tense, suspenseful and yet highly romantic. First One In, Last One Out will touch your heart and tug at your emotions and stay with you long after the last page has been turned.

BOOK REVIEW BY PEARLS WORLD

Just the prologue was enough to send shivers down my spine. It was the perfect introduction to this novel of romance and suspense.
Henion's style is accessible, easy and fast-paced. You can tell by the story that she has extensive knowledge of law-enforcement and this book gives the reader a good taste of how police-departments and murder-investigations work.
It was very descriptive in the beginning which had it's influence on the pace of the story but this was just in the very beginning, as soon as the story got going it read very smoothly. In some parts I was even reminded of the CSI television series I love to watch.

The people surrounding Lillian and Michael, friends, co-workers, family, formed a nice secondary cast. Complementary to both the main couple and the plot they all played their respective parts to make it a well-rounded story. Even the killer/stalker had his own point of view without betraying his identity. This made the suspense that bit more exciting, knowing his thoughts and motivations but having to guess who he was.

The plot was set up in a great way, leading the reader into a certain direction and then totally unexpectedly giving it a believable conclusion.
After reading numerous romance novels where the couple does the dive-in-head-first thing with their attraction and relationship I thought this was a refreshing and endearing love story of two every-day and easy-to-relate to people, complete with a first date and really getting to know each other, all embedded within the span of the 200 something pages. It was a traditional and original romantic suspense with the perfect mix of heartfelt romance and nail biting suspense.
It was the perfect combination of the love story and the terrific suspense that makes me want to read more by Laura Marie Henion.  4 1/2 PEARLS

Victoria Mardullo wasn’t looking for a relationship. She was still a
little love shy from her last romantic experience. Everyone (including Victoria) had always assumed that Victoria and Steven Soranno were meant to get married, have a family, and live happily ever after. But when Steven went on one of his secret missions, everything changed. For months, no one heard anything about Steven. No one was really sure if he were dead or alive. Eventually, Victoria had to come to grips with the fact that either Steven was dead or he just didn’t want anything to do with her. Victoria had decided to focus on her career, writing for Search and Seizure Magazine. At the moment, she was working on two particularly important projects: examining police corruption and finding her father’s killer. As luck would have it, her explorations would take her right to the killer, into harm’s way, and to the love of her life. As I started reading the few chapters of Cop’s Daughter: Victoria, I began getting a little snippy and sarcastic. In my mind, I started a checking list: here’s the love interest, here’s the killer, and at the end such and such will happen. Then, the author started to surprise me. I wasn’t so smart after all. Moreover, once these unexpected events began, I found myself unable to put down the text until I found out exactly who was who and what would happen at the end of the story.

Cop’s Daughter 1 is a very good suspense novel. Victoria is a strong woman with a cast iron stomach and nerves of steal much like the men in her family. I liked her immediately and found myself sucked into this story from the very beginning. There are several strange twists in the story that intensify the drama and intrigue and pulled me in even further. I did not like getting interrupted while reading this tale! The men in this story are all strong protective cops that ratchet up the risk of every thing Victoria tries to do. She has to be really good to get by with something under the watchful eye of her family. And then there is the bad guy but I don’t want to spoil anything for you here so you will have to read the book and figure out who he is and what he wants! If you love intrigue, romance, strong willed characters, and danger, you can’t miss with this story! And the best part is that this story is apparently the first book in a series about cop’s daughters… I can’t wait to read the next one!

FIRST ONE IN, LAST ONE OUT
REVIEW BY MANIC READERS   4 AND 1/2 STARS

As a whole I loved First One In Last One Out. In the very beginning, I found it frustrating that Katie had been so stubborn and cut off her family and friends when she really needed them most. As the story progresses and Katie starts to realize that she made a mistake shutting everyone out, I began to relate better to her character. Ryan’s character is charming, drop dead gorgeous, and a walking lie but watching him struggle to become the man he needs to be if he wants Katie, is entertaining. The arsonist in the story is scary and the author keeps the reader guessing what he will do next and if he will succeed in getting to Katie or her loved ones. If there has ever been a bad guy you love to hate, this character is it! The tale jumps back and forth between the three points of view well and gives the reader wonderful insight into each character. I very much enjoyed this book!

"Lillian Baxter was able to leave a life of physical abuse by a hair. Her ex, Martin, messed with her head, leaving her with lack of self-confidence and no self-esteem. She was certain she had left the painful experience until her past resurfaced. Detective Michael Fields has a good name for himself as a detective for the sheriff’s department. Offering protection to Lillian is high-priority on his list, falling in love with her was a blessed addition.

After putting up with Martin belittling her and inflicting too many scars, Lillian takes a leave of absence and starts life with a new name and a new home. Tired of running, she left the one man who gave her misery and pain, never looking back. She found one man she could trust. Whereas Martin was her abuser, Michael became her protector. She thought she would never care for another man again, but Michael treats her well and shows her respect. She thought the past was behind her, until the police inform they are searching for a suspect resembling Martin. Is he on his way to finish her? She can only hope Michael can save her or will the tables be turned?

Lillian’s Love is loaded in so much suspense I was glued to every page. My heart went out to Lillian. There were times I shared her pain, as well as her happiness. Michael is such a great hero. He is caring and emits much compassion. The blossoming friendship, and love, between the two makes the romance unforgettable. The refreshing characters make their sensations breathtaking. Laura Marie Henion weaves a believable, and extraordinary, tale. If anyone has ever shared in any hurt in their life, only to find a second chance, Lillian’s Love is just the story to read."

I have read many crime dramas and romantic novels. This novel combined both and was very well done. I have never read this author before, but look forward to reading more of her novels. It is an easy read, hard to put down. This author has good character and plot development. I look forward to reading future novels and seeing her style deepen and develop even more. Highly recommended by someone who's read the likes of James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell and many others.

The Nyack Villager's Book Talk

Rockland County author, Laura Marie Henion, may just be the next queen of
suspense.
Ms. Henion, a mother of three, writes fast paced romance-mysteries and
has cranked out 3 books in 18 months. Cop's Daughter: The Series-Victoria,
is the third one to hit Pickwick's shelves this 2006-2007-winter season.
All Henion's characters lead edgy, steamy lives and Victoria is no exception.

The book has a shotgun start with Victoria struggling to escape from an
abductor. The heroine is a journalist whose investigative style drives her to
find the killer of her father, police detective Danny Mardullo. Victoria is as fearless
as the men in her life. Her family is populated with police officers, firemen and
marines. Being a young woman doesn't stand in her way of seeing justice served,
even if it means going undercover to romance a man that the FBI suspects of
other crimes.

I found the plot held surprises with homicide detective, Tod Kafrey, who carries
more than a torch for Victoria. I also enjoyed reading about Victoria's family gatherings
replete with quirky relatives.
Cop's Daughter entertains with an exciting but believable plot. Laura Marie Henion packs
a one-two punch on the pages of her newest book.

Victoria Mardullo has suffered the past year with the loss of her father, who was
murdered, and the loss of her boyfriend, who went to fight for the Marines and
disappeared. Trying to pick up the pieces, she has two men who desire her - Tod
Kafrey, the officer investigating her father's murder and Bret Collins, a local, not too
scrupulous, businessman. Her family is full of police, fire fighters and military and they
are all not happy with her choice of Bret for a date. They are even more unhappy
when her boyfriend Steven Soranno reappears back from the military and Victoria
refuses to return to him. Well aware that she is not acting normal, her family is
suspicious and knows they must do something for her. Victoria is nothing if not
stubborn and she is determined to find who murdered her father. No one, including her
family and her returned boyfriend, will get in her way, especially now that there appears
to be information coming to light which would smear her father's reputation.

Victoria is the perfect heroine. Strong, capable and determined, she will do whatever is
necessary to bring her father's murderer to justice. She has a warm, loving family if a bit
controlling seeing as most of her family are also members of the police department, fire
fighters or military. In spite of this, she was able to do what she needed to do. Steve's
re-entry into her life was a surprise and both handled it well. Steve's reasons for no
contact were made clear as the story progressed. The conclusion was quite suspenseful
and was not something you would have guessed. From the intriguing beginning to the
nail bitting end, Cop's Daughter: Victoria was fast paced and suspenseful.
This is Ms. Henion's second book and I know I for one will run out and get the next one

Cop’s Daughter: Victoria, is the first in a series about women who are, like the author,
the daughters of policemen. In this first dramatic entry, Victoria Mardullo is facing not
only a memorial for her father, Danny, marking a year after his death in the line of
duty, but also the loss of her fiancé in the dunes of the Iraq War. She knows that
the local police force has not given up the search for Danny’s murderer, but she also
is realistic when it comes to over-burdened detectives chasing down a crime that is
a year old. She sets out on her own, using resources made available to her as the
daughter of a town’s beloved family and the skills she has honed as an investigative
reporter.

I enjoyed this book for several reasons. The big ones are that the mystery is very
well crafted and the interpersonal relationships within the Mardullo family. I
suspected the bad guy about mid-way in, but didn’t really believe he did it until he
revealed himself at the end. It kept me guessing, and wasn’t a last-page,
butler-in-the-closet solution either. In almost every big family there is an
incarnation of the characters of Aunt Jane, Uncle Patrick, Brother Peter and
Momma Sherry. Victoria’s responses to each are founded on respect and courtesy,
but personalized by her individualism and grief.

Keeping secrets in an extended family is not the easiest thing to do, and neither is
dating somebody who is not readily accepted by them. Victoria alienates everybody
she loves doing both helping the federal authorities solve her father’s murder and
restore the Mardullo family well-being.

River Point and Creek Valley, New York - Present Day

Victoria Mardullo is a writer for the magazine Search and Seizure so she knows
something about researching criminal cases.

Tory's uncle, Patrick Malley, is a police sergeant; her brother Peter is a SWAT
team member, and her brother James is in the Army, stationed in Iraq. And she has
cousins . . . Connor and Brian are also on the police force; Tom is a firefighter, and
Andy is a sheriff. Tory is surrounded by civic-minded relatives, and each is
determined to be her guardian.

Tory's father Danny, the cop she loved best, is dead, and his murder has yet to be
solved. His loss and the mysterious unsolved disappearance of Steven Soranno, the
man she still loves, have made her put up barriers and concentrate on her career.

Detective Tod Kafrey is the investigator of record regarding her father's case. He
would very much like to give aid and comfort to Tory. So would Bret Collins, a Town
Board member who aspires to be Town Supervisor. He is an older man with a poor
political track record, and his fear that his shady dealings will be discovered always
nags at him. With someone like Victoria at his side, he would be much closer to
achieving his goals.

Victoria agrees to help Federal officials gather information that would bring positive
proof of Collins's illegal activities. There is also the chance that he might know more
about her father's killing, although he is not the prime suspect. Much to her own
distaste and her family's chagrin, Victoria begins dating him. It is not just her brother,
uncle, and cousins who are against her seeing the politician. Detective Kafrey is furious.
Only her mother seems to trust that Victoria knows what she is doing. Because of the
secrecy imposed on her, she cannot tell anyone in the family her reasons for seeing
Collins and she has left herself open to danger. To further complicate matters,
Steven suddenly reappears with secrets of his own, throwing her heart and head
into a tailspin.

Laura Marie Henion manages her stage with smooth finesse. The town of River Point
is alive, peopled with fully developed characters. There are several other dead
bodies along the way, and the action builds to a crisis so relentlessly one can
almost hear the background music. Everything with the plot works, and the identity
of the killer was certainly unexpected. Fix a glass of ice tea and enjoy. I very much
recommend VICTORIA.

Cop's Daughter: Lauren by Laura Marie Henion

Cop's Daughter 2: LAUREN is a detailed, character driven story. There are several secondary characters
who provide expertise in solving the crimes against the young women who lost their lives and seeing that
justice is secured. Danger is all around and the places and people are so tangible, I feel that I would recognize
them. It is also a tale of teamwork, family ties, and traditions that bind those who serve and protect together.
Laura Marie Henion has delivered a realistically plotted, tautly-written, heart-pounding, at times gruesome,
action filled-book. I am keeping LAUREN
.
